Mass of Christian Burial for Doris Petracek, age 98.68, of Marshall, formerly of rural Vesta, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:45 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Visitation will continue on Friday, one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Following a funeral luncheon, interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Seaforth.
Doris Magdalen (Price) Petracek was born on January 17, 1928, on the family farm in Waterbury Township, to John Robert and Magdalen (Schwengle) Price. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school, St. Anne’s Catholic School, and graduated from Wabasso High School in 1944. In the time of “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II, Doris attended radio repair school in Minneapolis, then earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from the University of Minnesota in 1951. After her graduation, Doris taught Home Economics at Jackson. She taught Home Economics at Wabasso High School from 1953 – 1957. On August 22, 1953, she was united in marriage to Donald J. Petracek. The couple farmed and raised their family east of Vesta. After her youngest began school, Doris began substitute teaching in Wabasso from 1976 – 1986. She also taught CCD in Seaforth for 40 years and later served as the Principal for the Religious Education Program at St. Mary’s in Seaforth. Doris also served as Leader at numerous T.E.C. retreats. Doris was a founding member of the Redwood County Home Economics Club. She was a Redwood County Fair Judge for Food and Clothing. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth and the Council of Catholic Women. Doris enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing cards and video poker. In 2018, she moved to Heritage Pointe in Marshall, MN.
Doris died on Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Prairie Home Hospice McLaughlin House in Marshall, MN. She is survived by her children Frank (Kimberly) Petracek of Dublin, CA, Peter (Bridget) Petracek of Duluth, MN, Daniel (Katherine) Petracek of Waseca, MN, Marie (Mark) Longtine of St. Louis, MO, Bill Petracek of Hugo, MN; 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brother Bill Price of St. Paul, MN, and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, son Joseph, siblings Jack Price, Marian Redig, Don Price, twin sister Donna Price, Jim Price, Ed Price, Audrey Pistulka, Tom Price; in-laws and other relatives and friends.
