Ronald Joseph Treml, the son of Joseph and Louise (Guetter) Treml, was born on December 23, 1945 in Springfield, Minnesota. Ron attended country school, St. Joseph’s Grade School and graduated in 1963 from Morgan High School. He entered the National Guard at age 17 and served honorably. He worked for Welter Boatworks and Woodworks until he took over the family farm in 1968. He was self-employed as a farmer and cabinet maker until his semi-retirement, continuing to farm with son-in-law Neil and grandson Dalton through the last harvest, when he combined most of the fields to his usual standards. Ron loved caring for the farm that has been in his family since 1901. He was proud of clean fields and straight rows without GPS. Ron also enjoyed gardening, especially growing popcorn and watermelon plants. Ron met Janice Saffert in late 1967 at a dance and they married on July 26, 1969. Together they started farming and raised 6 children. Ron got his first motorcycle at the age of 40 and continued to ride for the rest of his life. He also enjoyed his restored John Deere and Massey Harris tractors, and his 1965 and 1968 Chevys. He went on rides often and listened to old country music. He could often be found sitting with his first communion rosary in his hand. Ron was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clements, serving as an usher and on the maintenance committee. Ron was also a member of the Clements Legion Honor Guard. Ron’s grandchildren will always remember tractor and gator rides with Grandpa, big bowls of freshly popped homegrown popcorn, homemade ice cream, woodworking projects and grape and orange pop in Grandpa’s shop. Ron’s children remember bean walking and rock picking, vacations in the station wagon, enjoying watermelons from the garden, summer lake trips, fishing, and always making popcorn balls on his birthday.
Ron is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Janice Treml; children, Lisa (Jeff) Fitzmorris, Brenda (Andreas) Treml, Sara (Bob) McNutt, Jeff (Dana) Treml, Dale Treml, and Laura (Neil) DeBlieck; grandchildren, Lillian DeBlieck, Ryan Treml, Dalton DeBlieck, Violetta Treml-Savas, Bobby McNutt, Joey Treml, and Coleman McNutt; brother, Dennis (Barb) Treml; sisters, Elaine (Arlan) Williams, Mary Ann (Tom) Klehr, Janice’s brothers, Ken (Jeannie) Saffert, Ron (Barb) Saffert; brother-in-law, Marc Frana and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Louise Treml; in-laws Roman and Mathilda Saffert; sister Monica Frana, and nephew Monty Frana.
