Roman M. Bach, age 88, of Canby, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at his home in Canby. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby, MN. Burial will be at the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Canby, MN. Visitation will be 3 – 5 p.m. with a 5 p.m. Prayer service and Rosary to follow on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby. The Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Canby is entrusted with the arrangements.

Roman M. Bach was born to parents Jacob and Elizabeth (Homan) Bach. on June 4, 1931 in St. Leo, Minnesota. He was baptized at the Church of Saint Leo and attended St. Leo Catholic School. In 1952, Roman was called to active duty in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1954, as a Corporal in the United States Army Artillery. On November 8, 1955, Roman married Gertrude “Gertie” Sik and to this union 8 children were born. “8’s enough!” Family meant everything to Roman. He dedicated his life to his wife of 64 years and to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Growing up on a farm, Roman valued family, hard work, honesty and a love for the land. Roman and Gertie made their first home on a farm near St. Leo. They moved to a farm southwest of Canby in 1961. Farming was their livelihood. Roman served on the Hansonville County Township Board, was an active member of Saint Peter Catholic Church serving as Pastoral Council Chairperson, President of the St. Peter Men’s club, a Grand Knight as member of the Knights of Columbus and a proud Veteran belonging to the St. Leo American Legion, and the VFW. Roman loved to visit and make people laugh. Roman and Gertie’s hospitality and welcoming spirit were known to many. Family and friends were always welcomed. Roman never found a card game he didn’t like. Roman passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his wife Gertie, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 16 days.

Roman is survived by his loving wife, Gertie and their 8 children: Marian Bach, Steve (Linda) Bach, Karen (Buddy) Hovland, Jeff Bach, Jerry Bach, Connie (Jason) Becker, Tammy (Dan) Willis and Stephanie (Al) Grey; 15 grandchildren: Collene, Joe, Alex, Ben, Niki, Allison, Cody, Megan, Jada, Carly, Ashly, Rachelle, Jacob, Braeden and Kaeden; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Roman in death were his parents, Jacob and Elizabeth; brothers: Alvin, Wilfred and Edward; daughter-in-law, Linda; and parents-in-law, Paul and Martha Sik.

Roman’s love for his family leaves a lasting legacy. He lives on in the hearts of his family.
