Robert Rolland Schrunk Jr. was born December 30, 1939, in Tyler, Minnesota. He was the son of Robert Sr. and Bernice (Graffunder) Schrunk. He grew up in Lynd, Minnesota, and was baptized at the Lynd Methodist Church. Bob attended school in Lynd and graduated with the high school class of 1957. He went on to further his education at South Dakota State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural  engineering. It was also in Brookings that he met his future wife, Ms. Esther Fauske. On December 8, 1962, Bob was united in marriage to Esther at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, Nebraska, where she was currently teaching. After graduation Bob entered the United States Navy and flew P-3 aircraft as a pilot for four years.  After his naval service, the couple then moved to the farm outside of Marshall where they have resided since 1968. Bob enjoyed spending his life out on the farm. Bob and Esther raised four children and spent over 59 years of marriage together.  He spent several years estate planning and selling insurance for AAL and AUL, while continuing to farm.  Through an observation of a need, Bob launched a combine chopper repair business, which later transitioned into his tire business. He had an inspirational work ethic and never retired as he just enjoyed staying busy. Bob also served as a longtime member of the Lynd School Board and AGR agricultural fraternity.  Bob adapted to a lot of changes over his lifetime, and he always did so with a positive outlook. He had a gift to talk to anybody and took a genuine interest in what they had to say. Bob had an insatiable quest for information, and always ended a conversation with a smile. He seemed to enjoy the hunt to find solutions to any problem many of which he would ponder on his long road trips while enjoying the scenery and farming out the window. When not working out in the yard, he enjoyed going to air shows and reading books on World War II Pacific Naval aviation history.
