MARSHALL, MN (KMHL) – Highways across the region are closed as a high winds continue to pummel the area.  Additional routes have been continually added to the list of closures throughout the day.  Via Twitter, Minnesota Department of Transportation officials with District 8 say that “First responders are swamped with stalled and stranded travelers. Stay safe, stay home.”

Travel conditions have continued to deteriorate again today as high winds continue to blow around the light snow that fell earlier this week creating white out conditions that have left visibility at near zero in many areas.

When a road is closed, it is illegal to travel in that area and rescue may not be possible. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.  For the most up to date information on road conditions, visit www.511mn.org.
