Richard “Dick” Edward Vroman was born on February 11, 1936, on the family farm near Milroy in the middle of a three day blizzard. He was the youngest of five children born to Alois and Idalie (Vercoutere) Vroman. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Michael’s of Milroy. He graduated from Milroy High School in 1954. Dick married Helen Louwagie on July 1, 1957, and to this union four children were born: Rhonda, Dean, Tom, and Jill.  Dick’s life was dedicated to farming and community involvement. He farmed for over 60 years in Clifton Township. During this time he served on the Clifton Township Board, Milroy School Board, Bremer Bank Board, ECSU and Apple Tree Boards, and Lyon County Planning and Zoning. Helen wanted everyone to know that his enjoyment was being on boards and being late for everything he attended. After Helen’s death in 2015, Dick survived a difficult bout with lymphoma. Dick lived independently on the farm until moving into Boulder Creek in 2023. Due to declining health, he moved into the Prairie Home Hospice McLaughlin House three months ago.  Dick died on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the McLaughlin House.

He is survived by his children Rhonda (Dave Alexander), Dean (Alice), Tom (Linda Okins), and Jill (Bob Jacobson); grandchildren Daniel (Natasha), Jordyn, Tony, Jackie, Jen (Michael), Andrew (Courtney), Jared, Charlie, and Rylee; great-grandchildren Shoshana, Sawyer, Oliver, Colette, and Bennet; sister-in-law Irma Vroman; as well as many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Helen, parents Alois and Idalie, siblings Mary (Allen) Battle, Josephine (Larry) Tillemans, Rosemary (Joe) Herman, and Donald Vroman.

The family of Dick is grateful for the care and compassion provided by both Boulder Creek and Prairie Home Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milroy or Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall.
