Richard Bruns, age 74, of Hendricks, MN passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at his home in Hendricks. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Hendricks, MN. Burial will be in the Hendricks City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN and will resume Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Richard John Bruns was born June 10, 1947 to John and Dorothy (Hinrichs) Bruns in Flandreau, South Dakota. He was raised in the Elkton, South Dakota area where he received his education and graduated from Elkton High School. Following high school, he was drafted by the United States Army where he served his country as a mechanic and driver during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and returned home. He was united in marriage to Ellen Reppe on May 22, 1970. They couple made their home in Astoria, SD where they owned and operated the grocery store and raised their four children. In the early 1990’s, Richard moved to Hendricks where he worked at Vick’s Corner Store. He later became owner of Vick’s Corner store where he continued to operate until his death on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the age of 74. Richard was a past member of the Grace Methodist Church in Hendricks. He was also a member of the American Legion. Richard enjoyed his years at the store where he loved to visit and serve his customers.
Richard is survived by his four children: Eugene (Amanda Bloom) Bruns, Rudd, IA, Sheryl Bruns, Laura (Eric) Ward, and James (Rachelle) Bruns, all of Watertown, SD; six grandchildren: Austin Bruns, Kaley and Karigan Zietz, Rhett Althoff, Aaron and Ruby Bruns; two sisters: Janet (Jim) Deniger and Gloria Jacobs; one aunt, Edith Monk; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father John Bruns; mother Dorothy Vick, step father Merlin Vick and two brothers: Roger and Gerald Bruns.
