Paulette Marie Anholm (nee Holm), age 75, formerly of Grand Marais, MN, died on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall, MN, following a valiant 3+ year battle with glioblastoma. A funeral mass, memorial service, and interment of ashes is planned to occur in the next few months, and information will be passed along so that all who knew Paulette can participate. The Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall is handling the arrangements.
Paulette was born January 23, 1949, to the late Howard and Rhoda Holm of Bloomington, MN. Paulette graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Bloomington, MN and attended Winona State University and San Diego State University to complete her education with a B.A. in History. Paulette’s work life included a career in Banking, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and the US Forest Service. A resident of Grand Marais for the last 30+ years, she was active in and/or a supporter of a wide variety of community affairs: the Grand Marais Lions (Lionesses) Club; the Friends of the Grand Marais Library; the local DFL; St. John’s Catholic Church; WTIP; the Grand Marais Community Thanksgiving Dinner; the First and Second Thrift Store; Care Partners of Cook County; and the recovery community of the North Shore, from Grand Marais to Tofte. At the end of her life, Paulette was comfortable and at peace, having been visited daily by her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Brad Strootman, of Marshall, MN for four months while in care. Other visitors, either in person or virtually over this time were her sisters Wendy Holm, Lori Moen, and Alice Sachs, her nephew, Elliot Moen, and friends from the Twin Cities, California, South Carolina, and from her home for 30+ years, Grand Marais. The visits and cards she received were a source of happiness, support, and love for her during that time.
She is survived by her sisters Wendy Holm (Don Byrd, deceased) of Pawtucket, RI; Joyce Strootman (Brad) of Marshall, MN; Lori Moen (Al) of Nokomis, FL; Alice Sachs of Burnsville, MN, and nephews and nieces: Shelby Moen of Jacksonville, FL; Elliot Moen (Rachael) of Apple Valley, MN; Joseph Byrd of Dundee, FL; Annabelle Sachs of Burnsville, MN; grand-nephew Finn Ambrose-Moen of Apple Valley, MN; and our beloved nephew, Aaron Strootman of Marshall MN (deceased). Other surviving relatives include maternal aunt Edna Hermes of Breckenridge, MN, and numerous cousins on both sides of the family. Former spouses/partners include Larry Tangen (CA), Robert Armstrong (TX) and Rick Rodgers.
Paulette’s family is most grateful for the care she received from the staff at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center, and from the Avera SW Minnesota Hospice Care staff.
