CANBY (KMHL) – There is some bad news for county fairgoers in Yellow Medicine County. This year’s Yellow Medicine County Fair has been cancelled due to concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The fair was originally scheduled to be held July 22-25.

In an announcement posted last night on Facebook, Yellow Medicine County Fair Board President said, “We were hoping not to have to make this kind of an announcement, however, it is with great disappointment and sadness that the Yellow Medicine County Fair Board is announcing that the 2020 YMC fair will not be held this year.”

Carlson said the health and safety of the entire community, guests, volunteers, vendors and exhibitors is their top priority – and added with that in mind they cannot risk people becoming ill in connection with a large scale gathering such as a fair.

“In light of the current restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fair board has discussed various options such as social distancing, seating, disinfecting, and all things required to run a ‘normal’ fair, it was apparent that it would be impossible to host a fair this year,” wrote Carlson in the statement.

He added while the fair is being postponed until 2021, they are making plans for a bigger and better fair next year.
