(Undated) — Fifth District Congresswoman Ilhan Omar defeated challenger Don Samuels by a 13-point margin, with 56 percent of the vote compared to Samuels’ 43 percent, in Tuesday’s Democratic primary. The race, which drew significant national attention, suggests that Omar, a member of “The Squad,” is almost certain to win the November election in this heavily Democratic district. Some GOP activists encouraged Republicans to “cross over” and vote for Samuels in the primary to help unseat Omar. Republican-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Royce White commented he would “gladly give up 5,000 votes in the CD5 primary to accomplish this goal.”
