Norma Jean Brandt, 87, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Heritage Point Senior Living in Marshall, MN. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, with a burial to follow in the Peace Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Redwood Falls are in charge of the arrangements.
Born on December 28, 1936, to Russel and Josephine (Stadick) Brandt in Redwood Falls, Norma grew up on the family farm near Clements. In 1967, she moved with her parents to a new farm south of Redwood Falls. She took great pride in maintaining New Avon United Methodist Church, ensuring it was ready for worship until its closure. Norma moved to Redwood Falls in 2004 and found joy in volunteering at the local thrift store. In 2017, she relocated to Marshall, where she lived until her passing. Known for her selflessness, Norma dedicated much of her life to caring for her parents. Thanks to her caregiving, she and her mother were able to stay on the farm until her mother, Josie, was 97. Norma loved her apartment in Marshall, where she spent her time working on jigsaw puzzles, completing word searches, and watching her favorite TV shows.
Norma is survived by her sisters, Joann Gold (Bill) of Great Falls, MT, and Janet Becker (Reggie) of St. Cloud; her brothers, Dean Brandt (Marian) of Redwood Falls, and Tom Brandt of Chandler, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Belva Zimmerli, and brothers-in-law Herb Reese and Leonard Zimmerli.
