Laurie Ann Struthers was born on October 21, 1959, in Marshall, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Lyle and Diane (Gagnon) Struthers. Laurie grew up in Ghent, Minneota, and then Ivanhoe, Minnesota, where she graduated with the high school class of 1977. She went on to further her education at the Granite Falls Vocational School where she studied to become a secretary. Laurie returned to live in Russell where she worked various jobs and raised her son, Jeremy. It was in the early 1990s that she met Mr. John Taveirne and the couple was united in marriage on September 16, 1995. John and Laurie made their home in Russell and for the last 30 years Laurie worked at Southwest Minnesota State University as the secretary for the Public Safety Department. She retired in May of 2023. Laurie always cared for animals, especially fond of horses, which she grew up with on the farm, and squirrels, which she liked to tame and hand feed at home. She was a self-described homebody but thoroughly enjoyed visiting with people that would come by and always welcomed friends and neighbors for a visit. She enjoyed the occasional computer game and afternoons spent coloring on the deck but focused a lot of her time on attending her grandchildren’s activities.
