SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota homeowners living in homeowner associations will receive new legal protections beginning January 1st under a new state law. Republican Senator Eric Lucero of St. Michael authored the legislation, which establishes new requirements for homeowner associations and property management companies.
“The number one takeaway for homeowners is that this legislation works to balance the scales between residents and their boards slash property management companies.”
Lucero says the measure serves as a Homeowners Bill of Rights by requiring greater transparency in how associations operate.
“This increases the protections, increases the rights and again is filled with best practices that are going to make the lives of residents easier, going to allow HOA boards to act with greater confidence due to being required to having greater transparency and accountability.”
The new law also places a cap on fines that property managers can impose on homeowners.
