ST. PAUL (LEARFIELD) – Are you planning to hit the road for the for the long Memorial Day weekend? You won’t be alone!

The Minnesota Department of Transportation encourages motorists to plan ahead before traveling over the Memorial weekend holiday.

“See if there are any sort of problems ahead, lane closures, single-lane traffic etc, because there might be ways to avoid that,” said MnDOT’s Kevin Gutknecht.

Gutknecht says motorists can be prepared for slower moving traffic and can consider using alternate routes through information that can be found on the organization’s website.

“Most work will quit at many of the sites at noon on Friday,” said Gutknecht. “But there are still things like lane changes, barriers, equipment and so on that could still be problematic for motorists, so slowing down is an important thing.”
