ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has identified the man involved in a law enforcement shooting that took place between Sept. 14 and 15 near Clarkfield, Yellow Medicine County. Kasey Paul Willander, 27, of Clarkfield, was shot by police and is currently in stable condition at HCMC. He is expected to survive, and no one else was injured during the incident.
Several law enforcement officers have been identified for their roles in the incident. Big Stone County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Lamee discharged his firearm and is currently on critical incident leave. A Meeker County sheriff’s deputy, whose name is withheld due to their undercover status, also discharged a firearm and is on leave. Officers from the Willmar, Glenwood, and Redwood County departments, among others, deployed non-lethal rounds during the confrontation.
The BCA is investigating the use of force and reviewing footage. Two firearms were recovered near where Willander was apprehended. Findings from the investigation will be submitted to the Yellow Medicine County Attorney’s Office for review.
