Mary Stelter (Behrens)

The Funeral Service for Mary Stelter of Marshall, formerly of Wood Lake, will take place on Friday September 6, 2019 at 10:30 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake.  Visitation will be held on Thursday September 5, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral and Cremation in Echo. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Wood Lake.

Mary Gertrude Stelter (Behrens) was born in Wheaton to Cobus and Tena (Nachtigal) Behrens. She grew up and attended school in Ocheyedan, IA, graduating in 1944. She helped on the farm after graduation. On January 27, 1957, Mary married Irwin Evers in Worthington. They farmed in Wood Lake. She stayed on the farm with her son Edward after Irwin’s death in 1970. In 1977, she married Robert Stelter in Wood Lake. Mary enjoyed flowers, the outdoors and especially visiting with people and children.

Mary died on Friday, August 30th, 2019 at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.

She is survived by her son Edward (Doreen) Evers of Wood Lake; grandson Sheldon of Cottonwood; two sisters Lorraine (William) Duitsman of Worthington and Annette Poss of South Sioux City, NE; sister-in-law Maryanne Behrens of Worthington, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Irwin and second husband Robert; one brother, one sister, and two nephews.
