Martha Jane Holt was born in Pine City, Minnesota, on May 3, 1956, to parents Blodgett and Augustyna (Wieczorek) Holt.  Marty grew up in the Hinckley, Minnesota, area and attended the Clover Community Church.  She graduated from high school there in 1974 and went on to further her education at Oak Hills Bible Institute in Bemidji, Minnesota.  On June 14, 1980, Marty was united in marriage to Leo Bass at the Evangelical Free Church in Marshall, Minnesota.  After meeting on a blind date, Marty was privileged to bring Leo to the Lord in a marriage designed by God.  The couple had three children and made their home in Walnut Grove, Milroy, and then Marshall.  Marty worked as head cook for the Marshall Schools, both at Parkside and the Middle School, and later ran her own business doing quilting and embroidery.  She also spent over 20 years serving at Camp Grace in Chandler, Minnesota.  Marty had an incredibly strong faith and was continually active in the Tracy Alliance Church, Living Word Lutheran Church, and several bible studies.  She always invested in others, especially in “her littles” – the next generation.  Any time someone needed a helping hand or a place to stay, she took them in and nurtured a needing soul.  In addition to relaxing with a book, Marty enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting.  She made many quilts and donated to charities like Quilts of Valor, Union Gospel Mission, and other non-profits.  She used her skill to better others, even at the Farmer’s Market, where she showed off her creations and helped others with their grown goods.

Marty Bass died on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at her home.  She reached the age of 64 years and 8 months.  Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her husband, Leo Bass of Marshall; 3 children, Aaron Bass of Rock Rapids, IA, Rachel Bass of Marshall, Michelle Bass (Tyler Schoep) of Mesa, AZ; 3 siblings, Mary (Al) Schmidt of Tracy, Earl Holt of Edina, George (Rose) Holt of Cambridge; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  Marty was preceded in death by her parents, Blodgett and Augustyna Holt.
