Marshall Mayor Updates Residents on Road Projects, New Aquatic Center Opening

MARSHALL, Minn. — Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes says several major city projects are progressing, including the Highway 19 reconstruction and the city’s new aquatic center.

“The project is moving along as scheduled, but it is a big project,” Byrnes said of the Highway 19 work. He noted motorists should expect traffic disruptions for another four to five weeks as construction continues.

The next phase will close the east side of Highway 19 from Park Avenue to the bridge, including access at Third Street. The High Street crossover will remain open, and the Bruce Street intersection is expected to reopen about a week later.

Byrnes also said North Sixth Street is expected to be paved and reopened next week. The Southview Trail is complete except for seeding, which is expected to be installed this fall.

Construction of Marshall’s new aquatic center is complete, with staff training and final system testing scheduled for next week. Weather permitting, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m., with the facility opening to the public at approximately 12:30 p.m.

“Because the water’s here, we may as well open and let the public enjoy the new aquatic center,” Byrnes said.

The facility will be open daily from noon to 7 p.m., a half-hour longer at both the beginning and end of the day than the previous pool schedule. Existing pool passes will be honored, and admission prices will remain the same through the rest of the season.

“There are a lot of features here,” Byrnes said, highlighting the lap pool, diving well, waterslide, zero-depth entry pool, splash pad and leisure river. He added the new aquatic center includes 57 different water features and has a total water surface area that is “roughly 50 percent larger than our existing pool.”
