A private, family Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall for Marjorie VanOverbeke, 92, of Maple Grove, formerly of Marshall. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.
Marjorie Eva (Prairie) VanOverbeke was born on June 4, 1929, on the family farm in Vallers Township, Lyon County, to Edward and Leah (Blanchette) Prairie. She attended grade school in Lynd and graduated from Marshall High School. On June 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to George VanOverbeke at the Cathedral of St. Paul. The couple farmed and raised their family in rural Marshall until retiring and moving to Marshall in 1982. Marjorie sold real estate and belonged to the CCW and the Marshall Golf Course. She and George enjoyed traveling, wintering in Florida, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her cooking, especially her angel food cakes. In December 2015, she moved in with her daughter Michele and son-in-law Lee Graczyk in Maple Grove.
Marjorie died at home on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, under hospice care in Maple Grove, MN. She is survived by her children Pam (and Jerry) Sonderup of Maple Grove, Nadine (and Rick) Frison of Peoria, Il, Leah (and Clay) Miller of Buffalo, WY, Adele (and Mike) Murray of Naples, FL, George (and Diane) VanOverbeke Jr., of Boise, ID, and Michele (and Lee Graczyk) VanOverbeke of Maple Grove, 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, son Todd, and four sisters and three brothers.
