Marie Stelter, 93, of Belview, formerly of Echo passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Parkview Nursing Home. Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Interment will be at the Vesta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Great Plains Lutheran High School in Watertown, SD or the Christian education school of your choice. The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Association in Echo is handling the arrangements.
Marie Lorraine (Keil) Stelter was born September 5, 1928 in Redwood Falls, MN, to William and Gena (Knudson) Keil. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, Marie graduated in 1946 from Redwood Falls High School. Following graduation, Marie’s secretarial work took her to Redwood Falls, Minneapolis, Annapolis, MD; St. Louis, Mo; and back to Echo, MN. On June 22, 1958, she and Marvin Stelter were united in marriage at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, She and Marvin spent their entire married life on the farm near Echo where Marvin was born. Marie shared in the farming operation and also worked at Citizens State Bank in Echo. She taught Sunday School for many years. Marie and Marvin’s love for children’s Christian education lent them the opportunity to aid financially in establishing a parochial school in a sister WELS synod, the ELFK in Zwichau, Germany. Marie enjoyed homemaking, sewing, photography and traveling. After retiring, they spent winters in Texas and eventually built a home in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Marie is survived by her sister-in-law Martha Keil and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her parents, her brothers Edwin, Robert, Wilbur and Calvin along with her sister Lois Clarken.
