MARSHALL — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says the CodeRED alert system used for emergency notifications has been shut down after a targeted cyberattack in November. The breach affected public safety agencies across Minnesota and the U.S., disrupting all CodeRED alerts, including weather warnings.

According to Onsolve, the platform’s vendor, limited personal information may have been exposed, including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and passwords associated with user profiles. Users who reused their CodeRED password on other accounts are urged to change those passwords immediately.

The Sheriff’s Office says it is evaluating new communication platforms and expects to launch a permanent replacement in early 2026. In the meantime, officials have activated backup alerting through the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) and are temporarily using Onsolve’s Crisis24 platform. Less urgent updates will be shared via social media and local media partners.
