MARSHALL (KMHL) – Lyon County Commissioners voted to hire an additional jail staff member, but expressed concerns that even the additional hire won’t stop a high turnover rate at the jail.

Lyon County Sheriff Eric Wallen and jail administrator Brad Marks attended the commissioners meeting yesterday to request the permission to hire an extra staff member. They told commissioners a high rate of staff turnover has been adding pressures to existing jail staff.

Marks said 70 percent of the jail’s staff had been hired within the last year. He added that correctional officers often are seeking advancement opportunities in law enforcement.
