Lyle Hanson, age 89, of Tyler, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society – Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler with visitation held one hour prior from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Inurnment will be in the Danebod Cemetery in Tyler following the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home – Tyler Chapel.
Lyle O. Hanson was born June 26, 1935, to Hans and Sarah (Jukam) Hanson on the family farm outside of Howard, South Dakota. He grew up on the family farm, and was baptized and confirmed at Belleview Lutheran Church. Lyle attended country school through the elementary grades and graduated from Howard High School in 1953. It was there that he met the love of his life, Dona Tripp. After high school, Lyle attended General Beadle College (now Dakota State) in Madison, South Dakota for one year before moving to Sioux Falls to work at John Morrell’s. On August 18, 1956, Lyle and Dona were married at Bethany Lutheran Church in Howard. Their union was blessed with three children and 61 years of life together. Lyle continued his education at General Beadle, earning a teaching degree in 1961. He was a member of the SD Army National Guard for 9 years and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma on active duty for a year. In 1962, Lyle began his 30+ year teaching career at Hoffman, Minnesota before moving to Tyler, Minnesota in 1965 where he taught shorthand, accounting, typing, civics and driver’s ed. After retiring early, he continued to stay active, painting houses during summer breaks, and working various part-time jobs. Lyle enjoyed meeting his friends for daily coffee and playing Liar’s Dice each morning. An avid golfer, he proudly sank two holes in one during his lifetime. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and took several memorable trips with friends. Above all, Lyle cherished his family. He was a dedicated father and grandfather who loved to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s events. Most of all, he treasured his time with Dona, whether it was sharing morning coffee together on the front porch, enjoying a glass of wine, attending church services, spending time in Arizona for a few weeks each winter, or just watching TV together, their bond was a cornerstone of his life. Lyle was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Tyler where he served on church council and as church treasurer for many years. He was also involved in the Tyler Lion’s Club, Kiwanis, and was a 40-year member of the Tyler American Legion.
Lyle passed away surrounded by family and love on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society – Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Although we are heartbroken and will miss him dearly, we find peace in knowing how much he has missed Dona since her passing in 2018. It comforts us to know that they are now together again.
Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his children: Doug (Sheryl) Hanson, Oakdale, Minnesota, Lisa (Steve) Steinhouse and Cheryl (Todd) Neuberger, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; eight grandchildren, Mike (Kari) Hanson, Teresa Hanson, Amber (Todd) Meulebroeck, Matt and Andy Steinhouse, Nate (Rudi) Neuberger, Kaity (Jason) Barker, and Karly Neuberger; 15 great-grandchildren, Horizon and Augustine Hanson, Conner Hanson, McKenzie Hanson, Caidynce Schmuhl, Kennedy and Carma Helton, Chase Hanson, Daxton, Cora, and Bowen Meulebroeck, Nelle and Jules Neuberger, and Ada and Palmer Barker; and five great-great grandchildren, Audrianna Brust, Hayden Doescher, and Journey, Jace and Leland Salazar.
