Lorraine Ione Kamrath was born July 16, 1929, the daughter of Iner and Ella (Peterson) Halstenson. She was very proud of her Scandinavian heritage. She lived in the Canby area all of her 94+ years. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.  Lorraine was a 1947 graduate of Canby High School.  She married George Kamrath May 27, 1949, at Florida Lutheran Church. They raised three daughters and a son on a farm northwest of Canby. Lorraine was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. She was a wonderful helpmate to George on the farm. Her door was always open to everyone, the coffee pot was always on, and her heart overflowed with unconditional love to all.  One of Lorraine’s finest accomplishments was being able to donate more than 12 gallons of blood. Lorraine was part of a neighborhood Bible study for many years, and her First Baptist Church family was especially precious to her.  Some of Lorraine’s favorite activities were attending auctions, garage sales and thrift shops; cattle drive memories; crocheting/knitting Afghans and dish cloths; phone calls and visits with family and friends; making lefse and homemade doughnuts; Tuesday morning phone prayer times with her daughters; and last, but not least, spending time with her 12 grandchildren: Michelle Kamrath Fields, Tracy Van Oort, April Teigen, Derek Klawitter, Shawn Kamrath, Laura Curran, Hannah Loera, Luke Curran, Brandon Kamrath, Rachel Caliva, Katie Curran, and David Paulson.
She is survived by her daughters Shirley (Dick) Klawitter of Slayton; Sheryl (Tim) Curran of Stillwater; and Diane (Jack) Paulson of Roseville; daughter-in-law Dawn Kamrath of Canby; her 12 grandchildren and their spouses; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Waiting for her in heaven are her parents; her husband George; her son Dennis; and her brothers Merton and Arvid; her in-laws Ben and Gesina Kamrath; Lawrence Kamrath; Harold and Louise Panning; Paul and Verna Kamrath; Donald and Kathryn Budahl; and Robert and June Kallhoff.

In 1999 Lorraine wrote a “Grandma Remembers” letter to her grandchildren. She ended it with the following: “May God richly bless each of you! May you enjoy a good life like we have had. May you know the Love and Mercy of God each day of your life. May He walk with you and give you His Love, Joy and Peace.” That is our prayer for each of you, as well.  A long life, well lived & well loved
