Lois Dorn, age 95, of Hendricks, MN, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Hendricks Nursing Home in Hendricks, MN. Funeral service will be 1:30 pm on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Hendricks, MN with Rev. Darren Shaw officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.
Lois Clarine Friestad Dorn was born on June 1, 1929, to Anton and Randina (Sagmoe) Friestad on a farm by Astoria, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Singsaas Lutheran Church and graduated from Astoria Public High School in 1947 with honors. Lois was united in marriage to LoWayne Dorn on May 30, 1948, and to this union three children were born: Stephanie, Denise and Bradley. Lois was very active in the church, singing in the choir and in a triple trio with Marcella Sandro and Irene Engesmoe. She also worked at Hendricks Hospital, Larson’s Grocery and 3-M in Brookings for 15 years. Lois loved having company and asking everyone to come on down for coffee and treats. She was a great hostess and cook and especially enjoyed playing marbles and games of all kinds. Lois was loved by all who knew her. Lois was a beautiful and talented soul.
Grateful for having shared Lois’ life are her daughter, Denise Dorn of Hendricks, MN; her son, Bradley Dorn of Rapid City, SD and granddaughter, Talia (Kyle) Dreckman of Tea, SD; two great-grandchildren, Everly and Ronan Dreckman and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Randina Friestad; husband, LoWayne; daughter, Stephanie Dorn; sister, Angeline Steen; and brothers, Lewellyn Friestad and Gordon Friestad.
