Lee S. Peterson age 82 of Westbrook passed away Friday, March 24, 2023 at Sanford Westbrook Hospital. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and will continue until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery.  Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Lee S. Peterson was born September 11, 1940 in Tracy to Duffy and Gunda (Knudson) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Lee graduated from Westbrook High School in 1958 and attended Augustana College for a year. He worked at Klasse’s in Westbrook before joining the Air National Guard in Sioux Falls on July 27, 1962. He worked in the missile shop in the beginning and later worked in administration. Lee travelled to Norway, Belgium, Panama, England and many places in the U.S. during his service. Lee retired from the Guard June 4, 1994 having served 32 years. Lee was married to Paulette Steffen on July 30, 1964. Together they had 2 sons, Troy and Trev.  He was later married to Helen Weis on June 1, 1999 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Lee was a member of the Westbrook VFW. He spent his spare time fishing and motorcycling in the summer and in winter he enjoyed snowmobiling and cutting wood.  He enjoyed wood working and was very skilled.  He built a garage and a Volkswagon trike.  After retirement, he loved spending time at his lake home at Big Stone. In his later years, he enjoyed watching racing and the Game Show Network on TV. 

Lee is survived by his wife Helen of 23 years; sons: Troy of Crooks, SD and Trev of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Heather, Katy, Bryce (Kristen) & Dylan; great grandchildren: Aaydan, Jarell Jr., Braylon, Olivia & Carson; and many other relatives & friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters June (Tom) Hendrix and Kay (Harold) Westby.
