The memorial service for Leatrice “Lea” Versluys, 89, of Brandon, SD, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022, at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the remembrance center. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. The Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall is handling the arrangements.
Leatrice Ila “Lea” Versluys was born on July 24, 1933, in Fairview Township to Thomas and Bertha (Blank) Lindsay. She grew up on the family farm near Green Valley and graduated from Marshall High School. On November 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert Versluys in Green Valley. The couple made their home and raised their family in Marshall until 1972 when they moved to Brandon, SD. Lea worked as a custodian at the Brandon Middle School for 25 years until retirement in 1998. Lea enjoyed gardening. She looked forward to the annual family fishing vacation in northern Minnesota. She also enjoyed preparing holiday meals and outings with her coffee club later in life. For the last few years, she had been living at a memory care home in Sioux Falls.
Leatrice died on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the Touchmark at All Saints in Sioux Falls, SD. She is survived by her children Steve (Mauretta) Versluys of Marshall, Teresa (Curt) Luetgers of Fairmont, Brian (Beth) Versluys of Aberdeen, SD, David (Robin) Versluys of Sioux Falls, SD, Rhonda (Dan) Stevens of Smyrna Beach, FL; grandchildren Kim (Chad) Hilton, Deena (Chris) Becker, Travis Luetgers, Krista (Chris) Laidig, Blayne (Haily) Solberg, Tyler Versluys, Dylan Versluys, Ali Stevens; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, and her eight siblings.
