ST. PAUL (LEARFIELD) – Minnesota lawmakers finished the state budget and ended a one-day special session just before 7 am on Saturday.
“This was a fantastic session,” said House Speaker Rep. Melissa Hortman (D-Brooklyn Park).
Hortman touted a number of achievements, most notably the extension of the medical provider tax to help low-income Minnesotans with health coverage.
However, House Republicans didn’t share the same view.
“This session was a failure,” said House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt (R-Crown).
Daudt says all the major budget decisions were made by top leaders with many other lawmakers left out.
