MARSHALL – Law enforcement agencies are warning the public about a rising scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming to be related to toll road payments. These messages, designed to steal personal and financial information, have been reported in multiple communities.

Scammers are sending texts that appear to be official notifications about unpaid tolls, sometimes impersonating state transportation departments or E-Z Pass services. The messages often contain urgent language and a link, urging recipients to make a payment or verify their information.

Authorities advise residents not to click on any links or provide personal details in response to these messages. Anyone who suspects they have fallen victim to the scam should block the sender and contact local law enforcement.

Officials emphasize that legitimate toll payment notifications are never sent via unsolicited text messages requesting payment or personal information. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Below are some examples of these scams.
