Janice Rae (Beavers) Omtvedt was born on December 20, 1945 in Granite Falls, Minnesota to Harold and Verna (Anderson) Beavers. At a young age, the family moved to Belview, where Jan attended school until her graduation in 1963. On June 29, 1963, Jan married the love of her life, Rolf E. Omtvedt. To this union, five children were born; Todd, Tamara, Ingrid, Heidi, and Marit. Rolf passed away in 2006 after 43 years of wedded bliss. Jan’s love for her family was evident in everything she did. She cherished every family gathering, as did the rest of her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always excited to go to Grandma Jan’s. Many amazing memories were made and will be remembered forever. The food was always ready; she was famous for her dumpling soup, scalloped potatoes, scalloped corn, cinnamon rolls, brownies and so much more. Treats were always ready for any visitors and the coffee was always on. She was the “hostess with the mostest” and no one ever left feeling hungry. The joy she got out of baking and cooking never went unnoticed. Jan loved family traditions. She taught her kids and grandkids the art of lefse making. She passed on her love for the holidays to us all. Jan’s favorite pastime was a good game of cards; Hand-n-Foot or Skip-Bo were two of her favorites. Many games of cards were played at the dining room table with family and friends. She also had a passion for plants. She re-potted and started many new plants, which was evident in her bay window. Jan had quite the green thumb.  The family wishes to thank CentraCare Hospice Staff for the excellent care they gave. You were a blessing.
Jan is survived by her four children and their spouses: Todd (Lisa), Tamara (Dean), Ingrid (Mark), and Heidi (Brad); bonus daughter Jesse; son-in-law Khalid; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Rolf, daughter Marit, grandson Adam, parents, siblings Virginia, Roger and Charles, and numerous other family members.
