Janice M. Longhenry, age 75, of White, SD, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023 at the Sanford Clear Lake Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11 am Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Pioneer Lutheran Church, rural White, SD. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the East Hendricks Cemetery, Hendricks, MN. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.
Janice Marie Oien was born on August 10, 1947 to Clifford and Gilma (Mickelson) Oien at the Hendricks Hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Hendricks and graduated from Astoria High School. Following high school, she married and raised three sons in Nassau, MN. Janice worked a lifetime of serving others while working as a nurse’s aide in several area hospitals, assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Later Janice obtained her associate degree as a dental assistant through Canby Vo-tech and worked as a dental assistant before returning to her love of helping people in need in assisted living facilities until her retirement. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking visiting with family and friends and spending time with her grandkids and her beloved Yorkie Maggie Sue. Janice passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on Monday, June 5, 2023 at the Sanford Clear Lake Medical Center at the age of 75.
Grateful for having shared Janice’s life is her fiancée, Charles McKinney, White, SD; three sons: Scott (Nancy) Longhenry, Garretson, SD, Steven (Stacy) Longhenry, Fenton, IA and Shawn (Elise) Longhenry, Wahpeton, ND; stepdaughter, Cammy (Chris) Haines, White, SD; grandchildren: Allison, Claire, Logan, Anna, Wyatt, and Morgan Longhenry, Hailey, Chloe, Kylen and Macyn Haines; two brothers: DeWayne (Virginia) Oien and Robert Oien and nephew Timothy. She was preceded in death by her parents, a niece and two nephews.
