
Janice “Jan” E. Jacobsen was born July 23, 1938 in Sleepy Eye, MN to Wesley and Ethel (Gent) Dohrmann. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. Jan received her schooling at Sleepy Eye Public School, graduating in 1956. On September 14, 1957, she married Donald Petersen at the Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. Together the couple made their home near Redwood Falls. After Donald passed away in 1980, Jan started working at First Northwestern Bank in Redwood Falls. Later it became Norwest Bank and is now known as Minnwest Bank. She started as a drive-up teller and worked her way up serving the customers. In 1986, Jan was married to Loren Jacobsen. Jan was the head of Prime Timers group with the bank. She retired in 2001. Jan was a long-time member of Gloria Dei and served as Church President, raised funds for the air conditioning project and also served on the WELCA. Later, she was a charter member of Christ’s Victory Lutheran Church and served on the music committee. Jan traveled all over the world with Loren; Austria was one of her favorite destinations. They purchased a vintage car and restored a 1932 Chevy, which she had in many parades. She enjoyed her flowers and Cadillacs. Most of all, Jan loved spending time with her family and attending all of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events.
Jan is survived by her children: Rick (Kim) Petersen, Mike (Mary) Petersen both of Redwood Falls, Chad (Heather) Petersen of River Falls, WI, & Bill (Kimberlee) Petersen of Hutchinson; grandchildren: Miranda (Josh) Schunk, Megan (Kylie) Gibson, Mitchell (Beth) Petersen, Alex (Tina) Petersen, Nicholas Petersen, Jacob Petersen, Jenna (Carter) Rock, Justin (Payton) Petersen, Chantal (Kevin) Oechsle, Miriah (Cody) Andres & Misty Petersen; 22 great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Sharon) Dohrmann of Hugo; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Wesley & Ethel Dohrmann, husbands: Donald Petersen and Loren Jacobsen and an infant son Randy Petersen.
