Janet Marcella (Remmele) Werner was born on November 19, 1932, in Echo Township, to Baldwin and Clara (Preuss) Remmele. She grew up on the family farm and was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo. After graduating from Echo High School, Janet attended Business School in Mankato. She later worked in the Social Security office in Granite Falls. After Janet met Walter “Pally” Werner, Jr. at a dance, the couple was united in marriage on September 12, 1954, at Peace Lutheran Church. They lived in Wood Lake until 1959, when they made their home on a house next to the Remmele family farm in Posen Township. Janet and Pally lived on the farm until 2016, when they moved into the Belview Townhomes. In November 2020, they moved to Meadow Ridge Assisted Living in Golden Valley.  Janet was happiest when she was with others, especially family and friends. She loved hosting events, from family holidays to funeral lunches to weekend get-togethers. She was an excellent hostess, always eating last in the kitchen after everyone else was served. Janet stayed active in the community as a member of numerous clubs: Hobby Club, Birthday Club, Homemakers Club, Card Club, Ladies Aid, and the Echo Legion Auxiliary. She worked at Parkview Nursing Home in Belview for 26 years, first as a nurse’s aide and later in the activities room. She was a wonderful baker. Everyone loved Janet’s homemade buns, and her cookie jar was always full. In their younger years, Janet and Pally brought their three sons on vacations to Duluth, Yellowstone, and Itasca, to name a few. They also enjoyed traveling the country on bus tours. Even though she did not like flying, Janet enjoyed exploring different places and cultures through food. She was a genuinely kind person who never had a negative thing to say about anyone.

Janet died at Meadow Ridge Assisted Living in Golden Valley on Thursday, September 1, 2022. She is survived by her sons Brad (wife Laurie) of Echo and Randy (husband Peter Tressel) of Edina; daughter-in-law Sharon of Sanborn; grandchildren David (wife Michelle), Wade (wife Molly), Justin (wife Reagan), Chris (wife Lindsey), Mariah, and Isaiah; great-grandchildren Karlee, Kolton, Derek, Cole, Quinn, Ella, Sophia, and Sam; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter “Pally,” son Greg, and brother Myren Remmele.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Peace Lutheran Church in Echo.
