OLIVIA, MN – A routine traffic stop escalated into a high-speed chase on the Tuesday evening, according to the Olivia Police Department. An Olivia police officer attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle near Highway 212 and 14th Street. The driver, who had also passed another car in a no-passing zone, initially stopped before suddenly accelerating and fleeing westbound on Highway 212.
The pursuit, involving multiple law enforcement agencies, saw speeds exceeding 100 mph. A Renville County Sheriff’s deputy successfully deployed a tire deflation device, slowing the suspect’s vehicle. During the chase, the fleeing driver forced a deputy off the road, causing the officer to enter a ditch to avoid a collision.
The suspect’s vehicle eventually came to a stop near Highway 212 and County Road 1. The driver was arrested on felony charges and taken to the Renville County Jail, where she is awaiting arraignment. No injuries were reported.
