Helen Engesmoe, age 88, of Hendricks, MN passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN. Burial will be in the Hendricks City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Social distancing guidelines will be followed with mask required at all indoor gatherings.

Helen Luverl (Ramlo) Engesmoe was born July 26th, 1931 in Hendricks Township, Minnesota, to Joseph and Alma (Johnson) Ramlo. She attended country school through the 10th grade and then stayed at home to care for her crippled Mother and younger brothers. She was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church.  On September 8th, 1951, Helen married the love of her life, Joseph Engesmoe. Helen and Joseph lived in Hendricks Township and farmed their whole lives together. Besides crop farming they also milked cows for 25 years, and then began raising beef cattle. In the beginning of the 1980’s, Helen became a certified nursing assistant at the Hendricks Hospital and Nursing Home. She truly enjoyed her work and always took care of each of her patients as if they were one of her own. Helen worked for the Hendricks Nursing Home for over 30 years.  Helen was a very hard worker. She was very dedicated to her family and her Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. It was always very important to her that everyone knew to “always be right with the Lord, and be ready to go when he calls, we are never guaranteed a tomorrow, but we have today to accept our Lord.”  Helen enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life. She sewed many outfits for herself and her 3 girls. She made numerous quilts for the homeless, and she loved to make Afghan blankets for graduation gifts. She always enjoyed her huge bountiful annual garden. She worked so hard to can for the coming year, the bountiful harvest. She was always busy cooking something, and her specialty, Apple Pies were always in the freezer ready to cook if company were to stop over! In her spare time, she always enjoyed word searches and crossword puzzles. She always looked forward to Spring! The new arrival of the Spring Calving season. She loved her Red Angus baby calves. She was blessed with a set of Triplets this last year. Something she had never experienced in her 88 years of farming!  Helen and Joseph were blessed with 5 children, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Her family meant the world to her. She loved them all very much.

She is remembered by her husband, Joseph of Hendricks; children: Susan Cox, Bridgeport, CA, Cindy (Tom) Schmitt, Lakeville, MN, Tammy (John) Bond, Peoria, AZ, and Steven (Maryanne) Engesmoe, Hendricks, MN; grandchildren: Jennifer Anderson, Jessica Amo, Joe Schmitt, Tiffany Bond, Michaela Engesmoe; great grandchildren: Ean Guinn, and Kristen Guinn; Brother Manuel (Wanda) Ramlo, Hendricks, MN, sisters-in-law: Joyce Ramlo, Marcy Summervold, Opal (Chester) Benson, Helen Moffett; numerous nieces and nephews, and many wonderful lifetime friends.  Helen was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Alma Ramlo; her brothers: Dolph and Courtney Ramlo; her sisters: Darlene and Verna Ramlo: her son Carroll Engesmoe and her son-in-law Dale Cox.
