Persistent rainfall from Thursday into Friday has resulted in water covering sections of Interstate 90 in southwestern Minnesota, leading to freeway closures. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has shut down I-90 between Worthington and Luverne, as well as between Luverne and Adrian. Detours are in place and may last until Sunday.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for Rock and Nobles counties, reporting 2-5 inches of rain with more expected. A flood watch is also in effect, with additional heavy rain and thunderstorms forecasted for Friday and Friday night.

“The heaviest rainfall will occur across southern Minnesota through midday. Another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms arrives this evening and continues overnight,” stated the National Weather Service. “A few storms may be strong to severe with damaging winds possible. Storm total rainfall on the order of 2-4 inches, with over 5 inches possible across southern Minnesota.”
