Gordon A. Hedman, age 99 of Mankato, formerly of Storden, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025 at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 24, 2025 at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church, rural Westbrook. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. The service will be livestreamed on the church Facebook page. Interment will be in Old Westbrook Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Old Westbrook Lutheran Church.  Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gordon A. Hedman was born on the family farm March 5, 1925 in Storden Township, Cottonwood County, MN to Alfred and Olga (Gustad) Hedman. He was baptized and confirmed at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church. Gordon attended District 41 country school through 8th grade and then attended Storden Public School High School.  After his schooling, he farmed with his father and brothers before being drafted into the US Army in 1945. Gordon served in occupied Japan and received his honorable discharge in 1946. Gordon married Joyce L. Einertson on September 5, 1951 at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church. Together they made their home in rural Storden where they farmed until 1965 when they moved to North Mankato. Gordon worked in boiler maintenance at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital, which later became part of the Mayo Health System, until he retired in 1991. After retirement, Gordon and Joyce spent several winters in AZ. Gordon was a member of the Storden American Legion and served on the township board in Storden Township. He was a longtime member of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church and served on the board of Trustees. Gordon’s hobbies included square dancing, reading – especially Westerns, which he also enjoyed watching on TV, and playing cards and Bingo.

Gordon is survived by his daughters: Kathryn Hedman of Mankato, Judith Hedman of Minneapolis, Susan (Robert) Fickle of New Brighton, and Ruth Hedman of Minneapolis; grandchildren: Martha Moran of Mounds View and Paul Fickle of New Brighton; 6 great-grandchildren: Pix, Ari, Alice, Eliza, Lucy & Max; sister Gladys Mathiason Warner of Walnut Grove; & many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce on January 21, 2020, and brothers Lloyd & Arnold Hedman.
