A public visitation for Gary Sandman, 66, of Balaton, will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Balaton.
Gary Thomas Sandman was born on October 14, 1957 to Loren and Betty (Marker) Sandman in Columbus, NE. He grew up in Columbus attending Columbus Public Schools. He attained a computer programing certificate from ECPI in Omaha. In 1980 he met the love of his life Amy Weibel through a family friend. The couple were married on April 27, 1985 in Columbus. Shortly after getting married the couple moved to Minnesota, settling in Plymouth. Gary worked a variety of computer jobs in the metro before settling at United Healthcare. The couple moved to Marshall in 2016. They lived there for five years before retiring in Balaton in 2021. Gary liked to stay busy and would often do handyman work. He could be found tinkering in his garage and enjoyed woodworking. He loved to go for rides on his motorcycle as well as fishing and boating. Gary found pleasure in playing the game of golf. Gary’s family was the most important thing to him. He would spend time with his children and grandchildren as often as he could.
Gary passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side after a lengthy battle with cancer on March 23, 2024.
He is survived by his loving wife Amy Sandman of Balaton, MN; children Tim Sandman of Wheaton, MN, Shawna (Matthew) Sandman of Tracy, MN, Andy Sandman of NC; grandchildren Emma Sandman, Tanner Sandman, Asher Sandman; mother Betty Devall of Columbus, NE; siblings Bill (Diane) Sandman of David City, NE, Deb (Howard) Brewington of Columbus, NE, Dora (Brad) May, of Richland NE; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gary is preceded in death by his father Loren Sandman; brother Timothy Wayne Sandman; and his grandparents.
