BROWNSDALE – A late-night fire on Wednesday resulted in the total loss of a hog barn and the 4,000 hogs inside.

According to Brownsdale Fire Chief David Pike, firefighters were dispatched at 11:52 p.m. to the 31000 block of 570th Avenue, where they found a 102-by-148-foot barn fully engulfed in flames. Despite efforts from multiple fire departments, the structure and its contents were completely destroyed.

“The barn and its contents are a total loss,” Pike stated, adding that the property owner has not yet determined the financial impact.

The Austin and Rose Creek Fire Departments, along with Mayo Ambulance, provided mutual aid. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews cleared the scene around 4:50 a.m.
