ST. PAUL (LEARFIELD) – Today (Fri) is the final day for front-line workers to apply for COVID “hero pay” checks from the State of Minnesota, and over 1.1 million people have put in their names so far — nearly double what officials forecast.

Five-hundred million dollars are available and Gov. Tim Walz was asked, will checks end up being smaller than 750 dollars?

“I want to stay away from doing the exact math on this but the answer is yes, and I think it’s probably one of the reasons — I don’t think I’m speaking out of order for these folks — that they advocated for the billion dollars and the expanded pool of folks.”

Senate Republicans agreed to 500 million dollars, pointing out that’s double what the legislature approved last year.
