The Southwest Minnesota State University Music Program will host “Brass-a-Palooza” on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the campus of SMSU.

The event is a celebration of brass music and learning and is open to all area brass players, regardless of age, experience or ability.

Brass-a-Polooza will feature guest artist Mark Hetzler, along with his innovative band Mr. Chair.

Hetzler plays in a wide range of musical settings: solo classical recitals, chamber and orchestral performances, electro-acoustic festivals and new music concerts. His band, Mr. Chair, looks like a jazz quartet, sounds closer to a rock band, and is contemporary classical music in the guise of a modern band. As classically-trained musicians well versed in jazz, Mr. Chair creates a new sound using both acoustic and electric instruments.

Warm-ups begin at 9 a.m., followed by brass choir rehearsal, a master class, lunch, guest artist recital, brass choir rehearsal and a final concert at 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre.

Applications and information available online at www.SMSU.edu/go/brassapalooza.
