| FreeSummer Blood Shortage Looms, Hendricks Community Hospital to Host Community Blood Drive
Hendricks, MN- As summer temperatures rise, blood donation levels traditionally drop, creating a critical need for community support. The Community Blood Bank is calling on local residents to help maintain a strong blood supply during these challenging months by participating in an upcoming blood drive at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church on Monday, August 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Donors can schedule a donation by logging onto cbblifeblood.org, selecting “Donate Blood”, “Blood Drive Calendar” and selecting August 11th or call us at 605-331-3222. All who donate will receive an All American blood donor t-shirt as a thank you gift. “The summer months pose unique challenges for blood collection throughout the region,” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “Vacation schedules, outdoor activities, and busy summer plans often lead to decreased donation rates precisely when the need for blood products remains constant. Hospitals continue to serve patients requiring life-saving transfusions for surgeries, cancer treatments, trauma care, and other medical emergencies regardless of the season.”
Donors should be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good general health. It’s recommended that donors eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water before donating. The donation process typically takes about 30 minutes, with the actual blood collection taking only 8-10 minutes. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are encouraged to minimize wait times.
The Community Blood Bank serves 43 hospitals and medical facilities throughout the region, including Hendricks Community Hospital, making local donations essential for maintaining adequate supplies for emergency and routine medical care. Your donation stays local to serve local patients who are counting on you. For more information: www.cbblifeblood.org or call 605-331-3222
