FEMA and the FCC will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts today. The test will be two parts, both scheduled to start at approximately 1:20 this afternoon. The alerts might not happen right away and could take up to 30 minutes for you to receive the alert. The Wireless Emergency Alert will be sent to all consumer cell phones, while the EAS test will be sent to radio and television broadcasts.
The test will ensure that the systems continue to be an effective way to warn the public about emergencies, particularly on a national level.
