Duane Clair Goodmund was born on June 27, 1931, to Oscar and Luella (Larsen) Goodmund on the family farm in Lyons Township, near Russell, Minnesota.  He attended country school before graduating from Russell High School with the class of 1949.  Duane went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was stationed in Germany where he worked in communications prior to his honorable discharge in 1954.  Upon returning home, on October 2, 1954, Duane was united in marriage to Rosella Elsie Neels at First Presbyterian Church in Russell, Minnesota.  In the beginning they started with very little, milking two cows and farming with family.  The couple worked hard to expand the Goodmund family farm that was homesteaded in 1892 and was later celebrated in 1992 as the Lyon County Century Farm.  Even after the couple retired to Marshall in 1996, Duane made many trips to out to the farm to keep up with his life’s work.  Rosella and Duane were blessed with 65 happy years of marriage together prior to her death in 2019.  Duane was a faithful member of Grace First Parish in Russell for many years and was a member of the Russell American Legion for an astonishing 68 years!  He enjoyed reading the newspaper, helping his neighbors, and spending a little time on the lake fishing.  Duane took life’s ups and downs in stride, reflected in his common saying, “whatever works, if it works.”  he never complained and his happy-go-lucky demeanor was appreciated by those that spent time with him. His morning bowl of KIX cereal was often followed by a doctor pepper and cookies at dinner.  Duane was truly proud of his family and his long running farm.

Duane Goodmund peacefully entered his heavenly home on September 1, 2022, surrounded by his family.  He reached the age of 91 years, 2 months, and 5 days.  Blessed be his memory.

Duane is survived by his 3 children, Doug (Robbie) Goodmund of Marshall, Greg (Linda) Goodmund of Russell, Cindy (Kevin) Schroeder of Marshall; 6 grandchildren, Nicole (Jim) Panko, Aaron (Amanda) Schroeder, Terry (MacKenzie) Goodmund, Casey (Nick) Heitkamp, Ashley (Josh) Johnson, Cassie Burgoyne; 14 great grandchildren, Nathan, Nolan & Covan Panko, Theo & Will Schroeder, Ryan, Christine, & Tim Burgoyne, Eloise & Penelope Johnson, Alexa, Stella & Austin Goodmund, Henry Heitkamp; sister-in-law, Bev Goodmund of Blomkest; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  Preceding him in death were his parents, Oscar and Luella Goodmund; wife, Rosella Go
