Delores Jean (Otto) House was born on January 5, 1936, in Johnsonville Township, Redwood County, to Fred and Bernice (Lovald) Otto.  She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1953.  On February 8, 1958, she was united in marriage to Eugene “Gene” House at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnsonville Township.  The couple farmed in Wood Lake where they raised their five children:  Julie, Douglas, Debra, Larry and Michael.  After they retired from farming, they moved to a house across the street from the Methodist Church in Wood Lake. Delores was an active member of the church and volunteered in many capacities. One of her annual volunteer jobs was registering the exhibits during the Wood Lake Fair. She also enjoyed needlework, cross stitch, crochet and quilting.  The couple enjoyed visiting area casinos and taking numerous trips around the country with friends.  Delores enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and looked forward to her monthly birthday and sewing clubs.  The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her.  She enjoyed attending sporting events, family gatherings and other special occasions. She spent hours patiently playing cards and board games. Gene and Delores also had a summer camping spot on Maple Lake near Alexandria. There Delores baited countless hooks, untangled fishing lines, and always made sure everyone had a snack and a pop.
