SLEEPY EYE (KMHL) – The parent company of Del Monte Foods announced today that it plans to close its production facilities in Sleepy Eye at the end of the current pack season.
That would mean the plant would close about October 2021.
The plant employs approximately 69 full-time and 294 seasonal employees in Sleepy Eye. In addition to the Sleepy Eye plant’s closure, Del Monte also will close its Mendota, Illinois production facility and sell off it’s Cambria, Wisconsin facility. The company also says it’s selling manufacturing assets in Crystal City, Texas. The company says it plans to transfer production from that site to outside locations later this year.
“This decision has been difficult and has come after careful consideration. This restructuring is a necessary step for us to remain competitive in a rapidly changing marketplace,” said Joselito D. Campos, Jr., the Managing Director and CEO, Del Monte Pacific Limited. “We committed to doing all we can to provide the affected employees with resources and support.”
Del Monte says production at these locations will be primarily transitioned to other Del Monte facilities around the United States.
