David W. Schultz, age 61, of Morton MN, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at his home, unexpectedly. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 11:00 – 1:00 PM prior to the service at Nelson-Hillestad Funeral Home. The Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Redwood Falls and Morgan are in charge of the arrangements.
David grew up on a farm near Morton. He attended Zion Lutheran Church of Morton where he was baptized, confirmed, and continued to be a member. He attended Morton High School until it closed. In 1983 he graduated from Redwood Valley High School. David entered the National Guard and completed basic training after his junior year in high school. He continued his education at Control Data Institute where he studied robotics. David worked at Jennie-O in Willmar for several years keeping all machinery up and running! He then worked for Neitzal Farms managing the hog barns, and most recently worked in Morton at Altimate Medical in the shipping department. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his vegetable garden, working on his house, and was a great cook. In 1990, David was united in marriage to Missy Groen and together they had two girls: Megan and Amanda. After their divorce, he had another daughter, Olivia.
David is survived by his daughters, Megan (Matt) Karlgaard and their two boys, Marshall and Mathis, Amanda (Mike) Flahave and their three children, Addilynn, Riley, and Micah, and Olivia (Jakob) Hertel and their two boys, Kaeman and Hayes. He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters: Ron Schultz of Aurora, CO, Carol Cooter of Paris, TN, Dennis Schultz of Morgan, Bonny (Dave) Smith of Redwood Falls, Nancy Steen of Redwood Falls, Sandy (Bryan) Isaacson of Dassel, and Jerry (Vechian) Schultz of Belle Plaine. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Gloria Schultz, niece Jamie Sawatzky, nephew Dustin Schultz, granddaughter Maysen Karlgaard, sister-in-law Kathy Schultz, and brothers-in-law Donald Cooter and Kim Steen.
