Darlene Schuler, age 90, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Prairie Gate Nursing Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. Interment will follow in the Marshall Cemetery. Attendees are then invited to a luncheon at the AmericInn Hotel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Hamilton Funeral Home. The evening will conclude with a memory share at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will then continue again at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be directed to the family for a future donation. Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall.
Darlene Avis Minick was born July 17, 1932, to Forrest and Mildred (Gillson) Minick at her grandparent’s house in Sherburn, Minnesota. The family lived in the Sherburn area where Darlene was close with her extended family. At the age of 10, Darlene remembered cooking for the threshing crew at her Grandma Minick’s farmhouse. At age 14, she was a live-in nanny for the Eisenmenger family and Darlene later graduated from Sherburn High School with the class of 1950. On December 3, 1950, Darlene was united in marriage to Lowell Clair “Pete” Schuler at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, Minnesota, and to this union four children were born: Kathleen, Steven, Elaine, and Karla. The family made their home in Welcome until moving to Marshall in 1958, while also enjoying summers at Lake Miltona and later winters in Englewood, Florida. She enjoyed hosting grandchildren in Florida, often fishing for grouper. Darlene enjoyed exercising her mind by completing the daily crossword and jigsaw puzzles and she was an avid card player – especially Bridge and Pepper. Her most treasured moments involved her grandchildren, she loved catching up with them on the phone and time spent together.
Darlene Avis Schuler died following a 16-year struggle with Alzheimer’s on Saturday, December 17, 2022. She had reached at age of 90 years and 5 months. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Loronda) Schuler of Marshall, Elaine (David) Sandquist of Marshall, Karla (Glen) Ring of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Kimberly (Andy) Binsfeld, Christopher (Danne) Buck, Neenah (Eric) Eben, Nicole (Dale) White, Stephanie (Lee) Poppe, Michael Schuler, Robert (Laura) Sandquist, Melissa (Mark) Andree, Carmen (Wes) Doughman, Elizabeth (Gerry) Heck, Adam (Holly) Ring; great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Eben, Jacob Eben, Jonathon Eben, Annabell White, Dale White Jr., Claire White, Klay Poppe, Garrett Poppe, Quinn Poppe, Brooklyn Binsfeld, Braden Binsfeld, Jackson Buck, Abigail Sandquist, Kaylee Sandquist, Grayson Andree, Beckett Andree, Holland Andree, Reed Doughman, Callan Doughman, Cambrie Doughman, Payton Ring; sister, Leah Rey; half-brother, David Sproat; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Schuler; daughter, Kathleen (Steven) Buck; great-granddaughter, Emma Buck; mother, Mildred Minick; father, Forrest Minick; stepmother, Evelyn Minick; and siblings, Gloria Berding and Janice Tarras.
