Darlene Schroeder, age 84, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall, Minnesota. Due to the current public gathering limitations, Private Family Funeral Services will be held at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall. A livestream of the event will be available by email invitation. Interment will be in the Marshall Cemetery. A Public Memorial of Gathering of Family and Friends is being discussed for later in the year. Please watch for future announcements.

Darlene Hall was born on March 23, 1935 in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County Minnesota, to parents Carl Adolph and Margaret (Broughton) Hall. She was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church in rural Cottonwood, Minnesota. After attending country school, Darlene went to school in Clarkfield, graduating with the class of 1953. She then went on to further her education and was trained as an RN at the Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Bloomington, graduating in 1956.

Darlene was united in marriage to Dale Schroeder during a December snowstorm in 1957. The couple made their home and farmed outside Marshall. Darlene worked as an RN at Weiner Memorial Hospital, the Balaton nursing home, Wabasso nursing home, Prairie Home Hospice, and Morningside Heights Care Center before her retirement in 1997. She and Dale spent 62 years of marriage together and had three children.

Darlene was a faithful member of Christ United Presbyterian Church where she served Ladies’ Aid as deacon and parish nurse. Her other enjoyments in life included sewing, cooking and socializing. She always had a caring heart for others. Darlene made some wonderful bonds with those she met at Hospice. She enjoyed being with her neighbors, playing in card club and having sing-alongs around the piano. Darlene and Dale were fortunate to travel and experience many activities together. Her favorite piece of life was her family. She treasured family activities and truly fostered a strong home.

Darlene Schroeder died on March 19, 2020, in Marshall, Minnesota, just 4 days from her 85th birthday. Blessed be her memory.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Dale Schroeder of Marshall; children, Steven (Doris) Schroeder of East Helena, MT, Debra (Joseph) Paul of Cologne; 6 grandchildren, Nicole (Bryan) Storms of Cologne, Matthew Paul of Cologne, Jessica (J.T.) Gustafson of Helena, MT, Alyssa Tsias of Tampa, FL, Heather (Will) Milburn of Magnolia, DE, Ariana (Brad) Burkett of Belgrade, MT; 6 great-grandchildren, Anyah, Ariella, Michael, Adrik, Jack, Isla; siblings, Merlyn (Sharyl) Hall of Tracy, Corrine (Don) Soyring of St. Cloud; brother-in-law, Walter Sternke of Atlanta, GA; nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Margaret Hall; daughter, Laurie Ann Schroeder; siblings, Ardis (Don) Sternke, Carol (Gordon) Barron, Ordell Hall, and Dianne Sternke.
