MARSHALL — As the school year winds down, the City of Marshall’s Community Education Department is ramping up for a packed summer of classes and activities.

Community Education Coordinator Jasmine DeSmet says the transition from spring to summer programming is well underway, with just one class left in the spring session: an Ice Cream Science class on May 12 at 3:30 p.m. “They make all kinds of different flavors of ice cream and you get to bring it home,” she said.

The summer brochure preview will be available online starting Monday, April 21, with physical copies expected by April 23. Swim lesson registration opens separately on Monday, April 28 at noon, and full summer registration begins Wednesday, April 30 at noon.

Among the most popular returning offerings is the SMSU Children’s Theatre, running June 2–6. “It fills up fast,” DeSmet noted, recalling how impressed she was by the production quality and talent involved last year.

New this summer is a “Gardener for a Day” club, led by a master gardener, with separate sessions for kids and adults starting May 7. Other highlights include a Shutterfly scrapbooking class (May 13 & 27) and the Sweet Treats cooking class, also running June 2–6.

With over 40 summer programs planned, DeSmet says it’s a busy but exciting season. For more information, visit the Marshall Community Services website or Facebook page, or call 507-537-6767.
